I was watching Singapore Idol on TV mobile the other day on my way home. It kinda amaze me how many have flogged to take part in it, there were even a few who are repeat contestants, (those who didn't make it even in the first round).
I know I sound very bad and all, but I'm not trying to be rude here, I guess many would agree with me that there are quite alot of those contestants who really cannot make it and are well, making a fool of themselves in front of national TV.
I would however say that I do admire their guts and determination to pursue their dreams and are not afraid to come out in the public like this, and then I wonder, if it was me, would I be as brave as them, to openly subject myself to criticisms (rather unkind ones at that too)?
I often say that I dream or aspire to be a market researcher and make it big in this industry one day, and well, despite being so unfamiliar and totally inexperienced in this field, I too, have been trying relentlessly (and shamelessly too) to get into a Market Research company. Needless to say, to no avail.
It kinda got me thinking, at the end of the day, I am just as thick-skinned and perhaps silly as those on TV pursuing their dreams. I guess its ironic that we don't see it ourselves that we are indeed making a fool of ourselves.
I wonder how many interviewers or companies have been laughing at this silly fella wasting their time trying her luck to get into market research. Just like how I've been laughing at some of the Singapore Idol contestants.
It's kinda amazing how we don't realize it until somebody points it out to us, or when it suddenly dawned on you one day. Looking back, it makes me wonder where did I get the "courage" and the thick skin to keep trying and failing, and trying and failing (insert no. of times) and STILL not giving up yet.
Does having dreams makes one braver? Hmm... Food for thought.
Sigh. Super low morale now, am down with a really bad cold, blocked nose, fever and sore throat. Now how's that for the beginning of a week?
