People who knows me and are close enough to me would probably know that I play the role of aunt aggie very often. I wouldn't say that I'm THE friend that people often go to for advise or for comfort, but I dare say that well, I listen. Yes, I do, and when I say I listen, I mean I REALLY listen.
All these years of listening to people's troubles and problems and offering comfort/advise and what not has kinda made me very stoic and somewhat jaded. My friends say I take it too seriously. Well, yeah, pretty much, cos I get affected too if a close friend of mine is down.
One thing tho. One same COMMON thing I see in almost all my friends. Stubborness. Sometimes I wonder, are they really seeking for advise or another point of view, or do they just want to find someone to agree with them.
Which brings me to my thought of the day: What makes people tick?
I think a large part of how we behave and what thoughts go through our minds stems from what we've been through in life. Actually, the obstacles and hurdles that we all have to go through in life are supposed to serve as lessons so that we learn from it and can lead a better life ahead.
Now the ironic part about it is, half of the human species don't function this way. We often allow these obstacles affect us for a long long time one good example is being jaded.
Like what I mentioned just now, stubborness. Why are people stubborn? Quite honestly, it is very difficult to "deal" with stubborn people, and it can get really frustrating. That's because you know that after having said so much, nothing went in and you didn't get your point across, and yet you know you can't do anything about it either cos at the end of the day, its his/her own life.At this point, I can visualize myself banging my friend's head hard against the wall hopefully that will knock some sense into her or at least wake her up. Heeeeheeeheee.
Ok. I know I'm dreaming. No one can help you if you refuse to help yourself.
Just this afternoon, I was trying to "offer" my colleague other avenues of approaching her "problem" and every other thing I said to her, she will find ways to rebut me. It became more like a debating session with each party fighting for a right to speak.
Its like she wants a particular outcome, and YET refuses to work towards it or even try, because she feels very paiseh. I mean, why can't people just weigh the prons and cons?? If it brings a long term benefit, then what is losing abit of face now right? -_-
*My verdict is: these people DO NOT need your advise or points of views anyway. Like I said, they are just looking for someone to agree with them. *
I think at the end of the day, it all boils down to what a colleague of mine once told me. It's a matter of how BADLY you want it. Very true.
Anyways. Yet another BIG problem I find very very common in gals. They like to split hairs. I can tell you, if you lived your life like that, you'll be miserable. Believe me, cause all the above mentioned, I'm also guilty of it (once upon a time). =p
Well, if you choose to interpret things according to your way (which is the negative side) then no one can help you, and no amount of what people say can help either.
And then we have the worst problem ever: Discontentment.
I think most of us are guilty of the above said. Many are simply NOT contented with what they have in life. I'm not saying that its not good to always want to have better things, better life, etc. What I'm saying is, we spend so much time and energy going after the things we think we want so badly but we fail to appreciate and treasure the things that are already ours, which is just as important.
Also, if one never learns how to be contented with what we have, then we will never learn what true happpiness is like or feels like.
Sigh. If only my colleague can see things in this way, how nice. Its getting really tired and pointless to talk to her. It's always *here we go again* Sian.
Ah well. Think I shall end here with a thought. Just the other night, my brother was teling me that perhaps, depression can be healed with just two tight slaps across the face (if you know what that means).
What a thought.
