So beautiful. So painfully beautiful

Ok. I've watched the above said movie. For those of you who don't know what the movie is about, it actually depicts a story of 2 cowboys, who, despite having their own lives (family, kids, job) find that its not the kind of life they want, and subsequently find true love in one another.

Yes, its a story of a love between 2 guys, a gay relationship.

The story begins in the summer of 1963 when a ranch-hand met and got to know a rodeo cowboy on at a place called brokeback mountain:

Love is a force of nature

"...... Set against the sweeping vistas of Wyoming and Texas, the film tells the story of two young men - a ranch-hand and a rodeo cowboy - who meet in the summer of 1963, and unexpectedly forge a lifelong connection, one whose complications, joys and tragedies provide a testament to the endurance and power of love.

Early one morning in Signal, Wyoming, Ennis del Mar (Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet while lining up for employment with local rancher Joe Aguirre (Randy Quaid). The world which Ennis and Jack have been born into is at once changing rapidly and yet scarcely evolving.

Both young men seem certain of their set places in the heartland - obtaining steady work, marrying and raising a family - and yet hunger for something beyond what they can articulate. When Aguirre dispatches them to work as sheepherders up on the majestic Brokeback Mountain, they gravitate towards camaraderie and then a deeper intimacy.

At summer's end, the two must come down from Brokeback and part ways. Remaining in Wyoming, Ennis weds his sweetheart Alma (Michelle Williams), with whom he will have two daughters as he ekes out a living. Jack, in Texas, catches the eye of a rodeo queen Lureen Newsome (Anne Hathaway). Their courtship and marriage result in a son, as well as jobs in her father's business.

Four years pass. One day, Alma brings Ennis a postcard from Jack, who is en route to visit Wyoming. Ennis waits expectantly for his friend, and when Jack at last arrives, in just one moment it is clear that the passage of time has only strengthened the men's attachment.

In the years that follow, Ennis and Jack struggle to keep their secret bond alive. They meet up several times annually. Even when they are apart, they face the eternal questions of fidelity, commitment and trust. Ultimately, the one constant in their lives is a force of nature - love."

The movie is rather slow-going and documentary-like, however, I find it very passionate and provides insights to a otherwise "taboo" topic of homosexual relationships.

Having said the above, I would suggest that any of you intend to watch the movie should go with an open mind, else, its content might probably be uncomfortable or even offending to you. Like what I said, keep an open mind and enjoy it.

I don't know what others may say or feel about this movie, but I know I like it. The story begins slow and sluggish when the men meets during a summer job and slowly elevates into confusion, love, passion, desire, guilt and not to mention, heart break.

Of course, not to mention, the spouses of both men, adds on to the heartbreak, guilt and helplessness as the men struggle to keep their love, passion, longing and desire alive and of course, in secret.

Knowing that they are unable to lead a life of their own, they settle for infrequent meetings and trips to mountain sides, by the lake where they had the whole world to themselves, but avoiding Brokeback mountain--the place where they met and um...fell in love.

"....That summer... when we split up after we got paid out I had gut cramps so bad I pulled over and tried to puke. thought I ate something bad at that place in Dubois. Took me about a year to figure out it was that I shouldn't have let you out of my sight...."

".....Why do you sleep standing like a horse?"

"...... I gotta go, I'll see you in the morning, ok?...."

"...... uhmm...."

So beautiful. So painfully beautiful.

If you ask me, I'll say it makes one treasure love even more. Or maybe, hetrosexual love doesn't seem as passionate, pure and special...

Digressing, I remember that time when Leslie died, and the love story of his relationship with his partner was told to all.

My goodness, I was really touched by it (well, so to speak) and the feeling was like... the love was so pure... so rare... and one that can withstand almost everything (rejections, denial, confusion, etc, etc, a large part of it due to our society being not so receptive to homosexual relations... yaddah... yaddah...)

I don't know, I was so "inspired" by his love story that I actually became very "disillusioned" or maybe I should say, it had the effect of making hetrosexual love seem so insignificant, so superficial and very fragile. That feeling is back again.

Anyways.

I shall not reveal what happened in the end, do go catch it, its a little draggy and sluggish, but well, the story is set in the 60s where framing and rearing cattle was the main way of life for most... its worth watching (in my opinion) and well, keep an open mind...

Here's a short video clip of the heart-wrenching and beautiful love story of the two men... enjoy.
