Which matters more?

Bad stomach. Been having the runs lately, I wonder WTF is wrong.

Anyways.

New school term has started, and so begins the insanely mentally tiring schedule of work, classes, seminars and project discussions. *loud sigh* What to do? Let's just hope all this "sacrifice" is really worth it and that something good do come out of it. *fingers crossed*

Haven't been in the mood to blog about anything lately, and the following next couple of weeks have nothing that I look forward to. Many at my workplace have tendered (almost one after another) all of which, of course for better offers and opportunities out there.

Which brings me to my topic of my post today.

Which matters more? A chance to do what you want, or the people that makes up your working environment?

Having said the above, of course I mean having to give up either one depending whichever your choice is.

That, is what's been bugging all (at least most) of us at my workplace. Having spent quite a fair amount of time in my current company, I can say that life's pretty not bad now as we have a good boss, who fights for us covers us and all.

My colleagues are all very nice people, not the malicious kind, and well, it feels like a fucking big funky family (again, most of us are like that at least).

And so I understand my colleagues, or rather, soon-to-be ex-colleagues' concerns. They are afraid that they will find themselves caught in the middle of office politics again like they have previously in their companies.

It worries me just as much too. My current workplace has been the same, just that the people here that makes working here seem so much different (and nice of course).

If I do finally get the break that I've been waiting and longing for, but the office politics there is strife, would the whole opportunity thing still be as desirable? Would I still want it if I had to trade erm...a happy working environment to pursue my dreams?

People have been telling me that sometimes, in order for one to survive, we have to stoop to certain means. I shan't say that they are "wrong", let's just say, it's a grey area.

I perfectly understand that it's a dog's world out there and that its a each man for his own kinda thing, but I have my reservations and it's disturbing me some.

Just the other day, there was a "minor" showdown between 2 of my sales people. We kinda saw it coming, repeated and heated discussions over the same issue (tapping into other's territory, snatching of accounts, etc etc) again and again, but nobody wanted to take it any further as it really isn't worth the hassle.

The whole episode (from a bystander's point of view) was fucking childish. In layman's terms, we can summarize it to: one accuses, the other became defensive, OVERTLY and OVERLY defensive, ended up shooting almost any soul who tried to break things up, thinking they meant to join in the accusation game. -_-

Anyways. A little digression, it's besides my point.

The thing is, this colleague of mine (the one who got accused), initially appeared to be a very righteous person who HATED any of those "accounts snatching" actions ALOT, and this coming from him now is well, quite a shock.

Which makes me wonder, is this what they call "survivor skills" that you have to really resort to underhand means in order to survive? People tell me that well, sales (and life also) is like that, get used to it.

Hey, no, I can't get used to it. It disturbs me very much. The one thing I will NEVER compromise is my principles. And so I have to get prepared to "die" or rather, get eliminated, I was told.

So does that mean to say that if we does something that is politically wrong (so to speak) it is ok as long as it is in the name of S-U-R-V-I-V-I-N-G out there in the society?!?!

I dunno, but I cannot stomach it. Ain't cut out for sales thats one thing I'm sure but what about in life? Hmm...

What do y'all think?
